I would be remiss if I didn’t share with all of you how I am able to stay in touch with everyone when I leave the country.
I can’t just be away from my family, and I cannot always get good cell service (even when paying for said service through AT&T…I’ll write another blog about this later). Although I know a number of people are happy to be on a technology break, as a small business owner it is necessary to be able to communicate with the outside world.
With Whatsapp, a free application, you will be able (when connected to wi-fi) to reach out to anyone else with this app. Make sure to look for the phone in the green word bubble.
First, download the app from either App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android), and set up your profile. I suggest you add a photo so that your contacts will know it is you.
Once you have your profile set up, it will be time to start adding your contacts. Some will show up already (because hey, you are not the only #worldtraveler), but don’t worry if your friends do not already know about Whatsapp. Simply send them a message from inside the app to let them know about it. From there, they can get set up and you will soon be able to not only text or call. Just imagine taking that video-conference at pool-side.
I have added my friend, Jennifer (Owner of Borghinvilla Wedding venue outside Montego Bay, Jamaica) so that we can stay connected both while I am in Jamaica as well as when I get back to the states.
You will see how handy it is that you can text, call, or face-time with your contacts. You never have to be out of reach of your family, friends, or clients again.
